PintPointe Foot laser

Do you have thick, yellow, brittle, broken and just plain ugly toenails?  The cause may be from a toenail fungal infection, called onychomycosis, which is a very common disease of the nails. The infection will normally spread to the base of the nail and topical treatments are often ineffective.

Oral medication such as Lamasil may be prescribed for treatment and usually needs to be taken daily for 3 months. Side effects may include, but are not limited to, liver damage or failure, diarrhea, stomach ache, and altered taste sensation.  Blood tests are done about a month after starting therapy to ensure normal liver function.

Laser treatment for toenail fungus is gaining popularity and has been available for the past few years.  It delivers light energy to gently heat the nail bed killing the fungus and fungal spores. A few treatments are normally needed and are spaced several months apart. Efficacy of treatment is determined as the nail grows out. No pills, no pain, and likely no side effects!

It is important to note that thick, brittle, discolored toenails may be a result of injury or other skin conditions, so a nail fungal culture is done prior to beginning treatment to assure the treatment plan is appropriate.
