acne treatments

Oh acne….. It can be a short term relationship or a long term relationship. Either way it’s no fun. With so many myths and products out there, acne treatment options can be very overwhelming.  The good news is our team is here to help you. Our well equipped Dermatologists and skilled Aestheticians can help with your acne treatment from the inside and out.

First, you need to know that there are different types of acne:

  • Open comodones (black heads) is when the follicle is open but filled with dead skin cells and oil.
  • Closed comodones (white heads) are plugged with oil and skin cells at the opening of the hair follicle.
  • Pustules are when there is a rupture in the upper region of the follicle and contain pus.
  • Nodular is when there is an inflammatory lesion that forms when the hair follicle is plugged with oil, dead cells, and inflammatory cells. This kind of acne tends to leave scars.

Our team can provide you with an acne treatment plan that includes the correct medications, products, and services specifically designed for you. One of our most popular services are acne facials. Acne facials are a great treatment that will help with purging and healing of comodones. Chemical peels and laser Genesis are other great services that will help.

One of my favorite products for acne is the Blemish Bar by PCA ($39). It has 2% salicylic acid and eucalyptus to purify the skin without stripping your skins acid mantle. The Blemish Bar can be used by pre-teens or adults and is great for open and closed comodones. It can be used at night, during the day, or in the shower and comes with sponges for easy application. Let it set for 2 minutes, then rinse.

I wouldn’t be a good Aesthetician if I didn’t mention SPF. Not only is it preventive for skin cancer, it also assists in preventing post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation that occurs after acne trauma. A lot of people who suffer from acne don’t like the feel of SPF and are afraid it will clog their pores. PCA also has a SPF that I love to recommend to my patients, Weightless Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 45 ($43). The active ingredient is Zinc which is a hard block for UVA/ UVB rays. It is not sticky and will not leave a white finish like other zinc products. For the month of May and June all of our SPFs are 15% off and we always offer specials through-out the year on our services. Both PCA products can be found in our Skin Care Clinic in Edmond
