Ahhhh…Summer. I remember long road trips to Lake Tahoe with my four siblings in the back of the station wagon. Yes…Chevy Chase style. The windows rolled down, radio playing “Take it to the Limit” by The Eagles. I remember my mom dipping a towel in the ice chest and wringing it just outside the window to cool us off in the heat of the day. I remember my dad driving just a little too fast during the cool night and wondering if he was actually awake (he IS Chevy Chase btw).
I remember eating watermelon and having to spit out SEEDS! Yum. Yes the good old days…but really were they that great? No seatbelts, no air conditioning, no GPS, no Facebook, no playlists, and NO SUNSCREEN.
Yes here I go again about sunscreen. Here is my message: USE IT…daily A randomized controlled trial out of Australia with over 1600 participants showed that using sunscreen daily (versus when they thought they should) had 50% fewer melanomas. That is significant. And something you have control over versus the genes you were given.
Parents – if you don’t like using sunscreens on your kid there are plenty of other options including rash guards, sunhats, and shade. If your kid gets ONE blistering sunburn before they are 18, their melanoma chance doubles in their lifetime. Yikes!
HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER AND HAVE FUN IN THE SUN…..BUT PLEEEAAASSSE DON’T BURN.
HAPPY SUMMER!
