April is Rosacea Awareness Month and as someone with Rosacea, I’m the perfect person to blog about this skin condition.

Rosacea is a chronic disease that affects 14 million people. Some common symptoms of Rosacea are:

  • Redness
  • Flushing
  • Visible blood vessels
  • Acne

Researchers are still trying to figure out the exact cause of Rosacea, but we do know there is a hereditary component. People of Northern European descent such as Norwegian, Swedish, English and Irish tend to be prone to Rosacea. There currently is no cure and it can get progressively worse which is why we recommend topical medications, oral medications and/or laser treatments. Rosacea can flare with triggers such as alcohol, sun, wind, emotional stress, and spicy foods.

A gentle skin care regimen is important especially one with daily sunscreen. Green tinted makeup or foundation with yellow tones can lessen the appearance of redness.

If you think you suffer from Rosacea, do not hesitate to schedule an appointment with one of our providers for an evaluation and treatment plan!
