Got fungus? The annoying problem of nail fungus (onychomycosis) is common amongst our patients here at Seattle Skin and Laser. Nail fungus is an infection that can grow on the nails of your hands and feet. Common signs of nail fungus are white or yellow discoloration, thickening and crumbling at the edge of the nail, and distorted shape in the nail. Nail fungus is caused by various different fungi and is common in people at any age, but more common in older adults. As nail fungus progresses, it often becomes irritating and painful, not to mention unsightly causing many who are suffering from nail fungus to seek treatment.
Nail fungus can be treated with topical and oral therapies, although these treatments can leave a significant percentage of those treated unsatisfied. PinPointe laser is the most recent improvement in treatment for nail fungus. It’s a laser that kills the fungus with heat. PinPointe requires two treatments scheduled 6 weeks apart. Approximately 70% of patients experience clearance, which is significantly higher than topical and oral therapies. PinPointe is becoming more and more in demand as patients prefer a drug free treatment if possible and a higher clearance rate.
I have been treating with Pinpointe here at Seattle Skin and Laser and have found that patients appreciate the simple treatment visits and the results. To see if you are a good candidate for Pinpointe laser, schedule an appointment with one of our medical providers.
