What are Skin Rashes?
Rashes are one of the most commonly seen skin concerns in the field of dermatology. They range from mild to severe and affect all ages. Rashes can be caused by inflammation of the skin, which can be triggered by a variety of factors. While diagnosing the source of the rash can be complicated, our providers at Seattle Skin & Laser are ready to help you find a solution and some relief.
What Causes Skin Rashes?
Some patients do not know what caused their allergic reaction; and so, in those cases, patch testing can be done to help narrow down possible allergens or irritants. To start, one of our dermatologists will ask you about your routine, and to think about any new items or changes that have been made. In addition to your routine, it is important to list out any possible irritants you could have encountered regarding your environment or place you have recently visited. Once this information is gathered you may be able to more closely identify the origin of the rash.
Types of Rashes & Treatment Options
Seborrheic dermatitis causes red, scaly and itchy rash most often occurring on the face and scalp, although other areas can be affected such as the groin. Although there is no cure for seborrheic dermatitis, it can be controlled with non-prescription and prescription medications and sometimes will get better on its own. Medicated shampoo and corticosteroid creams are often used to manage its symptoms.
