Laser Hair Removal: Eliminating Unwanted Hair

After 20 years of practicing laser hair reduction here at Northwest Dermatology and Seattle Skin and Laser, we’ve learned a few things and have watched the technology improve. Our lasers have become more fine tuned, and can treat more hair types. Our clients are getting better results than they ever have, and the treatments take less time and are more tolerable.

I want to talk about some specifics you may not read about in a brochure or online. Our new Vectus laser hair removal system gives us the capacity to treat not only dark hair, but also light brown, blonde, and even some red colors. The sapphire cooling system in the Vectus helps make this a virtually painless treatment. We have two spot sizes to use; one for small areas or fine tuning around the face, neck, and beard, or we have a bigger hand piece that cuts time in half for doing larger areas like the legs and back.

We also use Cutera’s ND yag laser for hair reduction among other things. This has been a gold standard for many years. I especially love this laser for treating dark skin types. With darker skin types you have to be careful with hyperpigmentation.  For example, women with dark skin and facial hair are more susceptible to hyper pigmented or darkened areas due to their hair growth. Traditional methods like waxing can cause ingrown hairs and more hyper pigmented areas. The ND yag has been the most safe and effective for hair reduction as well as evening out pigment.  When we laser and reduce hair growth we reduce hyper pigmentation. The ND yag is also an excellent laser for folliculitis or ingrown hairs in men’s beards.

If someone has chin hair growth , cystic acne, or is breaking out because of the deep follicles, laser hair reduction can also help heal this.

Hair can grow for many reasons, but hormone change can be one of the main culprits for women who have facial hair issues. Most clients need 4-8 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.  After your series of treatments is completed, you may need to come in periodically for a touch up if your hormones change or if you are dealing with medical issues like polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Now is a great time to get started on your series before summer time. We are currently offering a great special for January and February. Receive 20% off when you purchase a package of 5 laser hair reduction treatments.
