What is Botox®?
Botox® is an injectable treatment comprised of botulinum toxin type A. It works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that contract when facial expressions are made. This smooths lines and wrinkles in the face, typically on the forehead, the area between the eyebrows, and at the corners of the eyes.
During treatment, a small, fine needle is used to inject Botox into the treatment areas. Treatment is quick, usually only taking about 15-20 minutes to complete. There is no downtime needed, so you can feel free to return to your everyday routine right away.
Who is a Candidate?
Individuals who are experiencing signs of aging such as deep lines between the eyes that make you look tired or angry, lines on the forehead, or asymmetrical eyebrows due to aging can often benefit from Botox®. Good candidates will be in good general health and have realistic expectations for the outcome of their treatment. The best way to determine if this treatment is right for you is through a consultation with one of our dermatologists.
Recovery and Results
Following Botox® injections, patients can return to their everyday activities. However, strenuous activity should be avoided for the rest of the day. Swelling, redness, and bruising may occur, which is temporary. Results should be noticeable within a week and can last for 3-6 months.
