Diode laser treatment are performed for the purpose of removing vascular or benign pigmented blemishes. The laser emits an intense beam of laser light which is selectively absorbed by abnormal vessels or abnormally pigmented blemishes. The absorption is so precise that the surrounding tissue is minimally affected.
Most vessels will disappear or be reduced in size. Pigmented spots will become darker during treatment and will remain visible until they fall off naturally 5 to 15 days after the treatment. Treated areas may look slightly pink for an additional few days. If necessary, additional laser treatments will normally be separated by at least four to six weeks.
