Tattoo Removal with PicoSure Technology
In September 2013, we were the first clinic in the Northwest to offer this state-of-the-art technology. Since that time we’ve performed thousands of tattoo removal procedures and are pleased with the results the combination of our experience and technology provide.
PicoSure is the world’s first safe and effective picosecond aesthetic laser for tattoo removal. This breakthrough in laser technology delivers ultra-short pulse bursts of energy to the skin in trillionths of a second. The Picosecond pulse width is 100 times shorter than nanosecond technology, enabling unmatched photomechanical impact for better clearance with fewer treatments.
Clinical studies show greater clearance with about 50% fewer treatments than traditional nanosecond lasers. Even dark, stubborn blue and green inks, as well as previously-treated, recalcitrant tattoos can be removed. We offer complimentary PicoSure tattoo consultations to existing and new patients at the Edmonds and University Village locations.
About Tattoo Removal
Laser tattoo removal is the safest and quickest treatment available to remove an unwanted tattoo. Tattoo removal creams simply do not work and microdermabrasion only removes the outermost layer of skin. Laser tattoo removal is the least likely to damage your skin with the greatest results.
At Seattle Skin and Laser we have three different laser technologies to use depending on your specific tattoo. The PicoSure (mentioned above) as well as an Alexandrite (great for greens/blues) and a Nd:YAG from Hoya ConBio (perfect for reds/black). Our specifically designed lasers target the ink within the tattoo and break up the pigment of the tattoo with a high-intensity light beam. The body then slowly breaks down and absorbs the pigment. Tattoos fade after each treatment as the laser breaks down and the body’s lymphatic system removes the ink. Over the course of a series of sessions, the targeted tattoo will gradually fade. Once the tattoo has been successfully removed the result is permanent.
Tattoo Remoal FAQs
The color used to create your tattoo also has an impact on how easy or difficult it will be to remove. A tattoo made with many different colors is usually more difficult to remove than a tattoo made with just one color. Some ink colors are more difficult to remove than others. Black, red, dark orange and dark blue tattoos are the easiest to remove. Green, purple, brown, light orange, light blue, yellow and green colors may require more visits.
Tattoo lasers are designed to penetrate deeply enough to attack the color particles of the ink, but not so deeply as to create permanent tissue damage or other residual reminders of the tattoo you are trying to remove.
We can also fade a small portion of an existing tattoo. This patient wanted us to lighten the clouds and sail on his nautical tattoo. You can see the dark grey has faded significantly after 2 treatments with the Nd:YAG.
If you’re interested in getting a new tattoo where another tattoo already exists, we can fade the entire area as well. Most tattoo artists don’t need the entire tattoo removed for complete coverage with fresh ink. This is after 5 treatments with the Nd: YAG.
